How to Cope With Globalization

Globalization is a process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations, a process driven by international trade and investment and aided by information technology. This process has effects on the environment, on culture, on political systems, on economic development and prosperity, and on human physical well-being in societies around the world.

Globalization is not new, though. For thousands of years, people—and, later, corporations—have been buying from and selling to each other in lands at great distances, such as through the famed Silk Road across Central Asia that connected China and Europe during the Middle Ages. Likewise, for centuries, people and corporations have invested in enterprises in other countries. In fact, many of the features of the current wave of globalization are similar to those prevailing before the outbreak of the First World War in 1914.

Globalization in fact has a big impact on the lives of community groups as well as on each individual. the era of globalization like now, we  can easily access news, music, movies, and lifestyle of people in other countries through the internet. This acceleration and openness of information flow then changes the lifestyle and outlook of a person.

The effect globalization is like two sides of a coin which is never be separated. Globalization not always brings some benefits. The fact, if we are not strong enough to filter the effect of globalization, our local identy will vanish from the world. We as young generation of this country should take this matter seriously. With conserving our traditional cultures and doing good deeds as they was taught by our religion, we can stand still and survive as a country which never lose the local identity because of globalization.

However, globalization  has a positive and negative effects for us. Firstly, the positive effect of globalization is adapting to globalization increases the chances of free trade between countries. This opens opportunities for developed countries to invest in developing countries. so that economic growth in developing countries can grow so that it can have a good impact on the citizens of that country. for example, foreign companies opening branches in developing countries would need workers so that they would open job openings for the citizens of the developing country. As a result of the opening of employment, the unemployment rate can be reduced which also affects the welfare of the community because the crime rate is reduced due to the people getting enough money to meet their daily needs.

Second, because communication between countries becomes open, information exchange becomes easier because of globalization. We can quickly find out what events just happened in other countries easily because of the internet and because of open communication, it is hoped that the war between countries can stop so that between countries with each other have a good relationship due to good communication. In addition, globalization facilitates the export and import of goods, so we can easily buy the items we want. Unfortunately, we can be wasteful if we cannot prioritize what we need with what we want for pleasure. Therefore, we must be able to resist our desire to shop for things that we should not need too much or items that we can buy or get in our own country.

With the development of the era of globalization, then we must familiarize ourselves with a system that is all sophisticated technology so that we are not outdated or not fooled by sophisticated technology. Therefore, we also have to limit ourselves by using the internet and advanced technology so that we not only stick to technology but also socialize with our neighbors. So that the nature of individualism does not become more and more and with the development of technology we must also be able to use it properly and correctly according to our needs. And don't harm the environment around us because the effect will affect us too.

The Negative Impact of Globalization is as follows: first, if the rules and regulations regarding the protection of the environment are less in underdeveloped countries, other developed countries can manufacture products that may harm the environment. Second, a majority of big industries prefer cheap labour people in a skilled and non-skilled category will go for the job in developed countries.
Even though there is some negative impact due to globalization, the positive effects are dominating. It is also possible to reduce the various risks involved

There are several ways to deal with globalization that we can do
  •   First is love domestic products
Loving domestic products is an attitude that can be developed to avoid excessive Western-style lifestyles.

  •  Second is filtering foreign culture in accordance with the guidelines of values, norms and religious beliefs
  • To deal with globalization and cultural diversity, everyone must be able to filter foreign culture according to local culture.
  • Understand national values and Pancasila well
Love of the values of Pancasila will help us to respect Indonesian culture even though many foreign cultures have entered our daily lives.
